Colonial-era architecture and a permanently cool climate give Nuwara Eliya its nickname, “Little England,” set amid rolling tea plantations and framed by the still waters of Gregory Lake. Nearby tea factories make for an easy, wonderfully atmospheric day trip into the island’s rich plantation heritage. Best visited January to March, for the driest, sunniest stretch.
