Minneriya is famous for “The Gathering,” when hundreds of elephants converge on its shrinking reservoir during the dry season, drawn by fresh grazing along the exposed shoreline and shallow pools. It’s one of Asia’s most spectacular wild elephant congregations, staged across wide, open terrain each year. Best visited July to October, during peak Gathering season.
